Product Description

A veteran business executive, professor, writer, and aviator reveals what it takes to enter the world of flight and enjoy its many opportunities. With this book you’ll learn to become a sport pilot or repairman in less time and cost than ever possible!

You Can Fly Now: Your Keys to a Sky Full of Opportunity is a unique primer, in which author John Craparo teaches readers how to become a pilot, repairman, and airplane owner. In 2004, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration announced the Sport Pilot Rules which provide a safe and rigorous path to these new certificates. Whether you simply dream of flight, are returning to flying after an absence, or are looking for a career change or advancement, this book presents readers with relevant experiences and a new perspective. You Can Fly Now makes it possible for a full time college student with a part time job to become a pilot in less than a year without borrowing money.

Some of the chapters in the “experience” manual include a sweet sixteen approach to learning to fly airplanes, a seaplane adventure that accidentally beings in Europe and leads to Florida, learning to fly again over the southwest desert in gliders, and racing four feet above a prairie in a powered parachute. The book also presents the ways in which one can purchase and care for a used airplane affordably. Several appendices detail information on finding a flight instructor, choosing equipment and pilot resources you can find on the web. Also included is an illustrated guide to airplanes that readers can buy or build.

You Can Fly Now’s author, John S. Craparo, is a pilot, aircraft repairman, and ground instructor, as well as a business executive and former adjunct associate professor. He owns several aircraft and has written for Sport Aviation Magazine, Powered Sport Flying Magazine, Sport Pilot Magazine, and Aviator’s Hotline Magazine.

The Foreward was written by Col Joe Kittinger (USAF, retired)- the first man to solo a balloon across the Atlantic, highest parachute jump in history, and 1,000+ hour fighter pilot in Vietnam and POW in the “Hanoi Hilton”.

Inspired by this book... Review by Dave in Boston, MA

I just bought my second and third copy of this book. When I received the book, I read it cover to cover during an airline flight. The lady sitting next to me asked if she could look through it after I put it in the seat pocket in front of me. She never put it down and I ended up letting her have it when we exited the airplane. I have thought about becoming a pilot since I was a teenager. I always thought it would be too expensive. I am now in my thirties and was surprised that the college student in the book took a full college load, a part time job and by saving from that job for several months was able to become a pilot. Last week I took my first two flight lessons and loved them!!! I bought a new copy of the book for me and one for my instructor who is trying to figure out how to attract more students. While this book does not teach you how to fly or be a mechanic, it really gives you a practical approach to getting involved in aviation and reaching goals like those. The book is easy to read, entertaining and is filled with great references to help get you started. It is not filled with technical jargon. I have only one suggestion for improvement. It can use a quick start guide for each subject it introduces, but this is a small critique given the overall value I got from it. I have read two other How to Fly books and neither inspired me, rather they confused me. (Posted on 9/26/12)

A valuable introduction and guide Review by Don

As an NAA "Elder Staesman" and FAA 'Wright Brothers MasterPpilot" you can assume I have been around a bit. This is the best introduction and guide that I can remember reading. I am sure that I have missed hundreds, but this is one that will stand out. "Wheels and Wicker; UP" (Posted on 9/2/12)
