MG ANR Headset

Product Description

The MG ANR Headset has exceptional Passive Attenuation of 23 dB plus an additional 16-19 dB of Active Noise Reduction! This is the best ANR value on the market and includes cell phone and music interface, automatic shutoff and Active Noise Reduction (ANR).

Marv’s MG ANR Headset utilizes the Pilot Direct Noise Canceling System, which directs noise canceling toward the lower frequencies unlike any other ANR headset on the market. Perfectly combining noise canceling and speech enhancement, the Marv’s MG ANR headset has the highest intelligibility and performance available.

The MG ANR Headset also provides the capability of placing cell phone calls directly from your aircraft. A cell/satellite jack is located on the Right Ear cup. A soft headset case is also included to protect your MG ANR headset, battery box, and cord. Good ANR at a good price
  • 3.5 out of 5.0. Fairly good ANR.....not as good as some but more than adequate. Reasonable price, although you can find other brands even a bit less.

Overall, I am happy with the purchase. Marv Golden has always been great to deal with, no matter what. I have two older standard headsets that still perform very well.

No better than a good PNR headset
  • My primary headset is a Bose A20, which my gold standard for ANR headsets.

I have a Cessna 210, which is loud and has six seats.

I was hoping to find a cheap alternative to Bose/Lightspeed for the other 5 seats.

This is not the solution. The MG ANR isn't as quiet or comfortable as my 10 year old David Clark PNR headset.

It is very similar to the cheapest $100-200 headsets found everywhere.

The ANR function is noticeable only when the battery is brand new. Even then, it is not effective at all. My wife couldn't tell when it was on or off, at all.

You should probably buy a nice PNR headset or save your $$ and hold out for a Bose or Lightspeed headset.

  • Pros: Cheap
  • Cons: poor ANR, not comfortable
Occupation / Rating:
Great Headset
  • For the price I was not expecting the quality. It really surprised me and my instructor. They are looking to get them for students now.

  • Pros: Great Sound,Comfortable
Inexpensive, but not much ANR
  • I have both these AND the passive set. To be honest, I can't tell the difference between them. When I unplug the ANR module, I don't notice much difference. I don't think the ANR is worth the added price over the passive set. (But these are MUCH cheaper than other ANR headsets.) They have a nice, solid feel to them ... not cheap-feeling. And they form a tight seal around my ears. (I wear glasses, and it gets a little uncomfortable on longer flights.)
  • Pros: price, build quality

Exactly what I expected!
  • This item is only about 23% the cost of the top of the line ANR headset but performs (in my opinion) about 90% as well. I call that a good value. I have not used them for more than a few hours at a time so I don't know if wearing them longer is a problem or not. If cost is a factor and you don't need to say you have the Gee Whiz Bang hottest thing going, then this is the headset for you.
  • Pros: cost, performance
  • Cons: Not as effective at noise reduction as the more expensive units but most will find them adequate.
  • great product, works as advertised
Great job MG
  • Great passenger headset, I am using one in cockpit too! Obviously not the Bose end quality but great for investment made. Great job!

MG ANR Headset
  • I found this to be comfortable to wear, and the individual volume controls helpful and easy to use. The ability to connect a cell phone is a useful adjunct. I particularly like the fact that the auto shut off of the ANR feature works not only if not plugged in, but also if plugged in and the radio master is off. Extremely good value for the money.
  • Pros: I would buy this again if I need another headset.
  • Cons: none!

A Great ANR Headset Value!
  • Bought 3 of these for my recently-updated Baron. I wanted to give my passengers a comfortable experience, without spending a fortune. I read the reviews, and went ahead with these, knowing that they were returnable if they did not meet my requirements. I used them for a 1.5 hour flight instead of my Bose's - I can say that they did an excellent job of noise attenuation, and were totally comfortable for the entire flight. Although the Bose's were quieter, they cost 4x as much, and would not have been practicable for this use. I would even consider these as a primary headset, particularly if my budget did not allow the higher-priced headsets. Nice job, Marv!
  • Pros: Quiet, excellent value, solid construction
  • Cons: Not as quiet as Bose, power box is kind of "dangly."

Great first headset
  • Having spent all my money on the actual licence, and wanting to spend the bulk of money left on actual flight time, this was the obvious choise and did not dissappoint. Far from the quality feeling of the expensive brands you got to borrow from the instructor, perhaps not as exact in noise reduction, but a great fit, rather light weight, good connectability and good quality microphone and speakers. Fantastic value for the money, and will be a great passenger loaner once I go for a deluxe brand for myself.
Also great shipping to Europe within just a few days!
  • Pros: Great price to quality and feature ratio
  • Cons: The Mono/Stereo selector seems uncharacteristically cheap compared to the rest.
ANR not that impressive
  • The quality seems reasonable for the price, but the ANR does not work very well. I have tried Bose ANR's which are whisper quiet. I wasn't expecting that level of noise reduction for this price, but I was expecting the ANR to be much quieter than a good set of passive headsets, which it's not. Will be returning this headset.
  • Pros: Decent quality, comfortable, good mic.
  • Cons: Not any quieter than a good passive headset. Cord is not very flexible.

Very happy with this headset
  • I think the ANR works great. The battery box is nice also. I am very happy with the price and quality of headset. I have owned many softcomm headsets and this headset from Marvgold is very comfortable and quiet. Glad to get a restart on a three year warranty also.
  • Pros: Nice price,Very Quiet,Like size of battery box,comfortable
  • Cons: Don't know of any yet.
Great 3rd, 4th headset
  • I have two Bose headsets. Doesn't get any better than that. Needed two more basic headsets for occasional use. I like the ANR so I bought these. Flew two hours with the MG ANR. Low frequency noise reduction good not great compared to Bose. Nonetheless, my ears weren't ringing and I wasn't tired after trip KCCO-X35. Good value. 3 1/2 - 4 stars for sure.
Not a 'budget model' !
  • I prefer this to some more expensive models because it does the job, fits well over glasses, controllers hear me loud and clear and so do . Just enough engine sound comes through to allow me to hear for anything unusual sounding. And it is still quiet enough in the low frequencies to limit fatigue. Also, a more traditional earcup, but not as clamping as most.
This headset has provided dramatically improved communications when compared to the passive attenuation headset I had been using.
  • Headset : Head set is adjustable so the ear cups can be comfortably placed over the ears. The ear cup tension allows for a good seal around the ears so that leatherette ear seals effectively attenuate cabin noise without causing discomfort on long flights. The Active Noise Reduction (ANR) dramatically reduces low frequency engine noise. Combined, the active and passive noise reduction provides for clear reception from ATC.

Microphone: The noise cancelling electret microphone effectively cancels cabin noise, so, I never had ATC request that I repeat my transmission.

This headset has provided dramatically improved communications when compared to the passive attenuation headset I had been using.
Great value
  • The MG performs better than other bose and lightspeed headsets costing 4 times what the MG cost.
Great Product
  • Very comfortable headset. The ANR really works well. Don't know why anyone would spend hundreds of dollars more for the same performance.
Great value a lot of headset for the price
  • I was pleasantly surprised of how quiet the headset made the cockpit. excellent clarity and volume. The auto off/on feature which is activated by the avionics master switch is wonderful I will buy another one for my passenger to use. I like this better than a lightspeed which this set replaced when the cheap plastic on the light speed broke.
Great product- inexpensive, and does what it is supposed to
  • I bought these as a passenger pair, but I tried them out and plan to use them often. They work great, fit comfortably, and sound perfect. I highly recommend them to any pilot looking for an inexpensive ANR headset!

good quality complying with price
  • Very good product. corresponding to what I looked for. Cheapest and responding to the comfort needed.
wife's happy
  • my wife likes their lightness and the ANR feature
Great ANR headset for the money!
  • I'm very pleased with my purchase. I was looking for a good ANR headset that wasn't going to break the bank. This was an excellent choice.
A very nice headset, great ANR with a good 3 year warranty.
  • I just recently purchased your headset (May 2013) and really like it. I only fly an hour or two at a time so I find the headset comfortable enough, I have four David Clark passive sets and yes the fit is similar. You can really hear the difference when you turn the ANR off and on. I have only tried a Bose set for a very short flight and did not have the opportunity to try and then switch back and forth for a comparison. I like the headset and for the money it is great! Lee Seattle, WA.
Solid Noise Cancelling Headset
  • I needed a decent passenger headset, but didn't want to spend a whole lot of money on one. I thought I'd give Marv's ANR a try and I'm sure glad I did. I flew with it the other day and the hearing protection is amazing. I'd compare the comfort of Marv's ANR to the David Clark line of aviation headsets. I used the built in cell phone interface to make a call on my iPhone and the clarity was impressive. I'm a very satisfied customer.
