Hear "live" air traffic controllers working your aircraft and other traffic in real-time settings through all types of airspace.

Don't let "MIC fright" ruin your next flight.   Overcome that intimidation or refresh your skills with COMM1 as you exchange actual dialogue with Air Traffic Controllers from the safety of your desktop.  This Windows™ and Mac™-based instructional CD-ROM is the closest thing to talking on the radio in the cockpit you'll find anywhere.

  • Master AIM and FAA-approved radio phraseology

  • Prepare for each exercise with narrated briefings

Hearing is believing when you hone your radio skills with FAA-reviewed COMM1: VFR Radio Simulator.

If you get tongue-tied when you pick up the MIC, then COMM1 will help you untie the knot.  Being prepared with what to say, when, and in what order, is half the battle when mastering radio communication skills.   Practice selecting and saying the correct radio announcements and responses in all types of flight settings.

  • Learn when to transmit in the midst of "live" ATC exchanges

  • Receive immediate audio feedback to your recorded radio calls

  • Critique and compare your own radio speech with that of an expert

  • The most economical aviation communication training solution available anywhere

  • A sound investment in your own flight safety

IFR Departure Clearance Training on CD-ROM
    COMM1: Clearances on Request
is the definitive training program on ATC Departure Clearances. Developed in the same learn-and-rehearse style as the acclaimed COMM1: VFR and IFR products, COMM1: Clearances on Request is easy for users to take off and learn with. Here's a preview of what's in store from this sensational new training tool:

Review your route, then choose and request your clearance in over 100 practice scenarios.

Master IFR departure clearances in over 10 hours of comprehensive two-way radio training.

Detailed, informative briefings from instrument training expert Russ Lawton cover what to say, when, and why.

Test your newfound knowledge in realistic exchanges: Review the flight plan and charts, then choose and request your clearance from the Clearance Delivery Controller.

Extensive practice scenarios: 100 clearances to master!

Expand your knowledge of the ATC system and improve copy/readback techniques.

    The Basics
Not simply another pretty package, COMM1: Clearances on Request will be jam-packed with the information you need to on the ATC clearance system. For the first section of this new product, popular instrument training expert Russ Lawton has written a series of briefings on the ATC clearance system and techniques for copying and reading back IFR clearances:

Every exercise offers helpful audio feedback and examples of expert copy techniques.

    What is a Clearance?

When do you need a Clearance?

How does a Flight Plan turn into a   Clearance?

What are the Elements of a Clearance?

    Putting it All Together

    Practice, Practice, Practice
The second section of the program offers a series of practice clearances. You get a flight plan for each exercise, complete with a planned routing. You review the route on the accessible NOS Low Altitude Enroute Chart and then call up the Clearance Delivery controller (or Flight Service specialist, or Ground Control, etc.) to request the clearance. Then you copy the clearance (using the techniques learned in the briefings) and read it back to the controller, just like in the cockpit. If you miss the clearance, the controller can be asked to "say again!"

At the conclusion of the exercise, you get a chance to review your performance and hear how an expert would have read the clearance back, as well as see the expert's notes.

Trace each route of flight using the special NOS Low Altitude Enroute Charts included with COMM1: Clearances on Request.
