Product Description

The Beyerdynamic HS 800 Digital ANR Headset uses newly developed DANR technology (Digital Adaptive Noise Reduction) that combines the advantages of feedback and feed-foward techniques. The result is high control speed and the best possible accuracy.

Complex algorithms analyze the noise level and produce the exact opposite sound in the headset. The combination of adaptive broadband and narrowband digital filters with almost any wave form provides optimal noise suppression in all situations. This is fundamentally different from other Aviation ANR headsets that must be designed for a specific frequency spectrum or noise type to dampen.

This means that the Beyerdynamic HS 800 Digital Headset responds immediately and flexibly to changing noise patterns and sources. The noise during engine start, different engine speeds, significant climbs, etc will cause the HS 800 to compensate accordingly. For those who wear glasses, the audio leaks which can be caused by the frames are reliably compensated by DANR.

For music lovers, there is nothing finer than the engineering that went into this flagship headset from Beyerdynamic – a manufacturer of fine studio audio devices for over 80 years.

The HS 800 features an audio box that adjusts the volume of the headset and allows you to connect a mobile phone, music player or iPhone. This will automatically soft-mute the audio source when Intercom or Air Traffic information comes on, although this feature can also be turned off.

Best performer and Best value Review by JohnB
Quality
Really light, comfortable and smaller than Bose or Lightspeed and has music and cell phone inputs in the control box. I bought the HS 800's on a trial basis and took them down to a Bose dealer to use their cockpit noise simulator and compare to the Bose. Both my wife and I liked the HS 800's better on all counts. Bose probably scores marginally better on absolute sound reduction, but the HS 800's seem to cancel out the offensive frequencies and either don't touch the voice freqs or slightly amplify them. The sensation is superb clarity of voice frequencies. Similar to driving a luxo barge like a Lexus vs a german car. .The Lexus kind of mutes everything about driving while the german cars give road-feel feedback and a much better sense of control and response. To me, that is a much more secure and relaxing feeling than feeling like I'm in a sensory deprivation tank. In my uncorked 6 cyl Glasair at full power, I was just astonished at the clarity of intercom communication at very comfortable volume. They also feel much lighter and more secure on my noggin than the Bose whose clamping mechanism seemed overdesigned and awkward. The HS 800's are not widely marketed in the US, as they are german made and there's two respected US companies to compete with. They probably have a higher profile outside of the US. Nice design and very good build quality as is expected of german-made stuff. An unusual combination of the best performance AND the best value.
I have no business relationship with Beyerdynamic, just a very picky consumer.

Excellant! Review by Bill

These headphone are so light that you can wear them for several hours comfortably. The battery life is long, and they come with any adaptor you might need. Buying a second pair for my wife to wear. Good value! (Posted on 3/5/12)
